Enterprise Architecture (EA) is a strategic information asset base, which defines the business mission, the information necessary to perform the mission, the technologies necessary to perform the mission, and the transitional processes for implementing new technologies in response to the changing mission needs. Federal CIO Council Segment Architecture is a "detailed results-oriented architecture (baseline and target) and a transition strategy for a portion or segment of the enterprise." There are three segment types as defined in the OMB FEA Practice Guidance: core mission area, business service, and enterprise service segments.
